Ally Bank Commercial

Ally Bank recently changed names from GMAC bank and they are really pushing the advertising front very heavily. All over, we see commercials of the bank and they are actually not too bad. Here are the three variations for you to enjoy.

Fabulous yet sad forum this. Just highlights further how much of a “overly sensitive, molly coddled and non laughing serious society” we live in and one I refuse to ever, ever be part of.

This series of commercials is the worst pr mfor any
Bank I ‘ve ever seen..Are you trying to tell future customers that your tellers would treat “certain” customers di9fferent then others? BAD MESSAGE george

I think you missed the point, they are trying to show that their competitors are misleading others.

Reply

BarryH May 19, 2010 at 6:08 pm

You’re WRONG, because you’ve COMPLETELY missed the point.

This ad campaign is used to illustrate all the hidden fees and unknown charges banks don’t tell customers about, because they INTENTIONALLY hide charges to deplete customers’ accounts quicker so they can wrack up a stack of OVERDRAFT FEES!

These commercials illustrate the scams and crooked policies banks use to steal money from their customers.

I am a white woman and I don’t like the commercial of Ally bank and the little pony. I feel sad for the little girl without blonde hair and white skin because society has already taught us that beautiful people earn more and succeed more than others. I think that if Ally bank wanted to use the children in this commercial they should have changed roles meaning the blonde get the fake pony and the other get the real pony.

I don’t care what these kids look like, nor what the implication is supposed to be. After having read how these commercials were produced, I see it as nothing short of Emotional Child abuse. The commercials are dispicable, disgusting and in such poor taste that I would never, repeat NEVER do any business with this bank which was formerly GMAC. The name change and attempt to distance themselves from the GMAC name is diliberately deceptive in itself.

Reply

BarryH May 19, 2010 at 6:12 pm

You’re on hell of an ignorant lady, that’s for sure! Kids are treated FAR worse than this by their own irresponsible PARENTS.

This is NOT “emotional child abuse” at all, and suggesting it is just shows how emotionally fragile and incompetent YOU are!

I love the commercials! No kids were harmed. Most of them are actors, but in a real Candid Camera situation.

Read about it here… http://www.cnbc.com/id/31963049

Genius! The upset “Pony Girl” is not an actress, but now may have a foot in the door.

You folks complaining about abuse are such humorlous twits. As far as I’m concerned, the commercials are done tastefully and happen to be delights to watch, as well. The point made is that even kids understand the difference between good service and abuse. The tots gain our sympathy as we identify with their situation ourselves. We choose *their* side. So, they are the empowered subjects of these commercials -not the jerk that’s our age. Everything can and should be considered in this context. Of course, the children behave as children do. Reality sells well these days. So, have some! ;^)

We think your commercials are really mean to kids. Granted the commercials are well done and the kids are great actors but to depict an adult meaning so mean to a little kid is so annoying. In fact we were so annoyed with the meanness that we hadn’t noticed what company was being advertised until tonight when we decided to email your company.

Please change your commercials. There’s enough meanness in the world already.

Knoxzman March 12, 2011 at 7:49 am

Connie writes “we” but you know her poor husband’s got nothing to do with it. He’s just sitting there having a beer wondering why he married someone as anal and uptight as Connie. Poor Dan tried doggy style on her once and she almost called the police on him.

I like the commercials, because customers are sometimes treated like children and taken advantage of by the banks. But I think the guy in the suit is incredibly HOT! Who is he? Does he act in anything else?

Reply

I just used the commercial in a paper on persuasion and manipulation. The lasting memory of the piece is the children recognizing they got duped.

Does anyone use Ally Bank?

I would not, under any circumstances do business with a bunch of folks who show children being abused by an adult. Don’t we have enough of that nonsense in this world without you suggesting it to the freaks out there? What kind of monsters are you people? Get rid of it.

Reply

Great commercials. They do a great job of conveying the frustration adults feel when duped by slickster advertising. The kids represent the innocent side of us that is constantly being taken for a ride.

Not convinced that this firm would be any improvement though.

I think these commercial should be banned and the attorney generals office should
arrest the producers for child emotional abuse.

I find your commercials absolutely appauling. They are inappropriate and emotionally damaging to these children. I dont’t how you could feel that you could draw business utiliing this kind of approach. Your whole banking system should be shut down because of the emotional trauma you are putting these poor children. Shame on you.

Risvani May 18, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Ok.. I read a lot of these comments before deciding to make one… Late as it is. After the new series of Ally commercials, I decided to see if these children were acting or were set up in a candid camera type of situation.

First, I’d say I NEVER looked at these commercials as being racial. And even if you counted the ‘pretty blond’ got the pony and the normal dark haired girl didn’t – you could see that as a POINT of the commercial – big banks favoring the pretty clients and not being fair to the normal joe… So… whatever. It still works – even if it was going for that level of context. But they weren’t. Here is the link to a discussion with the director and such: http://www.cnbc.com/id/31963049/Ally_s_Rebranding_Are_Those_Kids_Really_Acting

They were very careful in dealing with the children.

And one last point: This is good advertising. Why? You remember it. You remember the name of the company and you are talking about it. Whether you like the commercial or not, its done its job.

Esther May 21, 2010 at 7:19 am

Your commercials depicting children and the treatment is deplorable. I am sure you can come up with something better than children to show the unfairness of banking and such. I am not so sure you are really any better than all the other rip off we the public have taken.

This just kills me that people take this so seriously! My God what a bunch of whiners this country is! Just so everyone knows, these kids are not being emotionaly damaged. They are actors. They are acting. They have been in other commercials. Now you can sleep at night. Get a grip people. Oh and for those of you too ignorant to know what satire is, they are ACTING like other banks and saying they are not like that. They are not saying this is what they will do to their customers. How sad that this even has to be explained. God this world is a sad mess.

Doug May 26, 2010 at 8:32 pm

I just noticed that every one of the idiots saying these kids (all actors btw) are women. Learn how to merge lanes on the interstate first and then take on these important social issues! I swear if women arent complaining they arent talking.

The children are believable and make the points like no adult actors could.
The marketing/advertising team deserve applause and bonuses. Keep the ideas coming!

I’m sure these kids are told immediately, “Just Kidding!” if they don’t already know its just a commercial. Their own peers and brothers and sisters treat kids worse than this commercial. If I knew where to find Ally Bank, I’d do business with them. This PC crap is unbelievable and has gone too far.

I find those commercials very disturbing. In all cases one child is being mistreated. The child is teased; he is rejected in favor of another child, usually better looking. I understand the point that the commercial is making, but there must be a better way.
How would it look if you used a racial or religious theme for this?
Disgusting.

Reed.. the Mosquito spray truck was one of the highlights of my childhood back in the early sixties. Don’t knock it. As soon as the neighborhood kids heard it coming, it didn’t take long for us to run out the front door and play in the “fog”!

I believe your commercials using the children is the worst commercial on TV.

It shows how adults can miss treat children.

If this is what you show on TV, how do you treat you costumers.

Reply

Brian August 21, 2010 at 5:09 pm

The fact that you got that out of the commercial shows that you don’t understand simple logic and can’t follow the true point of the commercial. THAT is what is sad here.

Reply

Jackie July 31, 2010 at 4:19 pm

I hate Ally’s commercials. I thought commercials were supposed to show positive results instead of negative things about their products. I hate to see sad faces about anything, much less children being cheated.

There are enough unhappy faces of children shown on tv these days, we sure don’t need a bank advertisement using unhappy children trying to get customers for a bank. I wouldn’t use this bank unless it were the last bank I had to use. Get real Ally and grow up.

Reply

Bryan Koeff August 3, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I have no doubt the children were hired to act, but at the moment of the shocking deception, they become themselves. They are truly hurt. This bank is taking advantage of children by capturing their poor expressions at the moment of a hurtful ploy. Yes these kids can act, but don’t let that cloud the subject. Watch again and focus-in on that moment when these kids go from actor to victims. How can these bankers look at themselves in the mirror?

Im sure everyone of those kids had a great time filming these commercials, they spent the day hanging out being pampered and being around other children, NOT being bound and gagged and whipped.

Rob, the beauty of living in a democracy is that people have the right to express their opinions… Furthermore, I think YOU should get a life. You seem so concerned with what other people think of a COMMERCIAL! Spend time with your family instead of chastising and insulting others because they don’t agree with you…

I recently went through 2 weeks of hell, having debit card access blocked to my account nightly while on vacation. I spent hours on the phone with Ally and emailed senior executives.
Eventually, the problem was corrected to where I can access the account. The bottom line is:

1. Ally does not have the automation systems in place to function as a bank
2. Ally isn’t a bank at all in the since you cannot go to an Ally location and withdraw your money (I was prepared to fly there to get my money)
3. Ally continues to advertise falsely regarding their customer service.
4. Ally will not compensate you for any losses that are their fault. You are on your own, baby.

Don’t waste your time with this bank imposter.
